Our Holidays as kids...

Created by Kerry one year ago

From since I can remember, till i was about 8 or 9 the Mettam's and the Bailey's went on holiday together to either Devon or Cornwall, there were us 4 kids, David, Donna, Dale and Me, Kerry, there was a 9 year gap from oldest to youngest, and you would think the 2 lad would pair up, and Me and Donna but no, David stuck with me, the baby, he looked after me, played with me, made up the Blob game where he chased me up and down the beach in one of those draw string change bags that you got changed in on the beach. One year we stayed in caravans, and of an evening, the adults would go in one van and play cards, and get drunk, while us kids in the van next door would make up plays and show them once they were sufficiently giddy on beer and wine. We also had a the infamous dirty farmhouse holiday in Devon, where it pretty much rained the whole fortnight and there was dog hairs in the grapefruit, and the massive moth incident in the bathroom, where my big brother was so freaked by one I had to fetch David to come get it away, and save the day. There was also the Dinghy drama, where David and Dale got in a  tiny rubber dinghy, and proceeded to float out to sea, and at one point Mum and Aunty Son were ready for calling the coast gaurd, they eventually did return none the wiser to the chaos they has almost caused.

David was simply the best, and my world as a kid, as time went on we saw less of each other but, he left a lasting impression on my whole life. I loved him like family, as I do Aunty Son, Uncle Roy and Donna. I have memories that I will forever cherish, and I feel so lucky to have had his presence in my life.
